Did you hear the one about the subsidized mortgage?

So there’s this bank that’s been advertising “subsidized mortgages”. Just for fun, I called them up and tried to figure out just what this subsidy is all about. Surprise surprise, the mortgage that they offered me was considerably more expensive than the same mix that I had arranged for a client at the same time at a different bank. Granted, I usually get a much better deal for my clients than they can get by themselves (this is not the important part of my work), but I never subsidize anyone, so I was expecting to hear amazing stuff. Investing in Real Estate

Is now the time to invest in real estate? I’m not talking about purchasing a property as a residence, but purchasing an additional property as an investment. The values of real estate in Israel have increased greatly in the past few years. Most of us have the seen the value of our homes double in the past 3-5 years, depending upon where specifically our homes are located. As I have written in the past, this is not the result of a cheap credit market driving up real estate prices, but a result of the simple economies of supply and demand in Israel.
